In order to gain further insight into the
relative importance of the various PageRanks, the DLL obtained PageRank data for the Home Pages of prominent organizations in three other
information-intensive sectors: information technology (broadly defined),
media (broadly defined) and governance, i.e., government and policy/politics.
A. Information Technology Sector
The PageRanks for vendors of computer
hardware, software, networks, and Internet standards organizations are
shown in Table A (below):
- The DLL found three organizations -- Apple, Google,
and the W3C -- that received Google's highest PageRank = 10
- The other IT powerhouses -- IBM, Microsoft, Cisco,
Intel, Sun, HP, Oracle, and Yahoo -- received PageRank = 9
- A number of very successful IT firms received PageRanks = 7 and 8

C. Governance -- Government and Policy/Politics
The PageRanks for the Home Pages of the
governance organizations are shown in Table C (below):
- Only two organizations -- the Department of Energy
and the National Science Foundation received the highest PageRank
= 10
- The House (9) and Senate (9) outranked the Supreme
Court (8) and the White House (7).
- DARPA (9) -- a component of the Department of Defense
-- outranked the DoD itself (7).
- Only four policy/politics groups -- the NAACP, MoveOn.org,
Electronic Frontier, and the NEA -- received PageRank = 8
... All others received 6 or 7.
